• iPhone 3G Thoughts...
Posted by Tucker on 13 Jul 2008
My first thought every time I think about the iPhone is that AT&T isn't available where I live. It sucks. When I go to college, more than likely I'll be somewhere where AT&T is available.

Well first of all...Obviously I've never owned an iPhone , but I've messed around with them before.  From what I've seen they are freakin' amazing!

I'll go over the looks first.  I actually liked the brushed metal on the back more than I like the plastic now.  I mean I'll still take the one with plastic on the back but it's just a big fingerprint magnet.  The previous iPhone had a recessed headphone jack.  Which I didn't get why that was such a big deal.  I don't think I've owned a pair of headphones that have a curved jack in probably four or five years. Are people starting to be a little picky?  Anyways Apple, being the great company they are, listened to their users and made the new jack in the iPhone 3G flush with the surface so it could be used for what ever style of headphone jack wanted/needed. The iPhone is still sexy as hell! And yes, I just refered to an object as sexy.

The new iPhone obviously has 3G which means way faster speeds.  Some review have even gone as far as saing that it is almost comparable to broadband.  Maps with GPS was also added.

Along with the new 3G there are many things that they added.  The same day they also released iPhone 2.0 software.  This release included the infamous App Store.  This bascially means you can buy applications straight from your iPhone.  Who really cares? Are people too lazy to just plug in their iPhone and download it though iTunes?  It would be way quicker, that's for sure!  But don't get me wrong! The app store is an amazing feature!

They now also have this thing called MobileMe.  It's the replacement to .Mac.  This allows push e-mail, contacts, and calendar.  This means that if someone is out and about and they get somebody elses number and address it will automatically be 'pushed' back to MobileMe and then to their computer from there. This is a really cool feature I think and could be really useful.

How could I almost forget the price cut!?  The iPhone now comes in two models.  A 8GB model and a 16GB model.  The 8GB model has a black back and the 16GB model has a choice of black or white.  The 8GB model goes for $199 and the 16B goes for $299.  This is a very good improvement from when it first came out! If I remember right it cost $599 when it first came out. That was a little pricey.

All in all I still dream about having the iPhone and I WILL be getting one in about a year :D...with any luck :S

Ugh! I know I keep saying I'll keep up with this but this time I have a pretty legitimate excuse.  About three weeks or a month ago I started having stomach pains.  At first I thought they were just normal cause I get them every now and then.  Well it went on for a second week so I went to the local doctor on Wednesday, June 18th, and remember I live in a small town, so it's a small clinic.  Well the doctor thought it was my gall bladder.  So she ran a bunch of tests and that following Monday she finally ordered for me to get a CT scan.  I had to go to the medical center in a bigger city about 20 miles from where I live.  Well I did that and they found out my appendix was really inflamed.  It had an abscess on it.  It should have actually ruptured but thank god it didn't.  So I was admitted into the hospital. On Thursday, June 26th I was put under for surgery. They didn't exactly know what they were going to do when they got in there.  They ended up putting a drain into my abdomen to drain the fluid out of me.  OH and during all of this I wasn't allowed to eat anything .  So the infection cleared up and they let me go today.  I was in the hospital for 9 1/2 days.  So basically it sucked and I'm glad I'm home.

Hey Everyone, Who decides to read my  blog.  Just thought I'd give an update on my, so far, boring summer.  I got my senior pictures about three weeks ago and am currently in the process of going though all of them trying to pick out what ones to order .  I started work full-time at he end of May.  So far it sucks!  The place I work moved to summer hours, because I work in areas where there isn't air conditioning.  So I have to be at work at 7:00 A.M., and I get a 30 minute lunch break at 12:00 P.M., then I get off of work at 3:30 P.M..  I do like getting off this early, but as you may know, I am NOT a morning person!  So I'm working 40-hours weeks! This kinda stinks but whatever, it's not like my rents will let me quit!  I've been working with a particular person here lately and he seriously annoys the shit out of me! Not only annoys, but pushes every imaginary button I have! I would explain more, BUT, I can't for certain reason, and one of those is to keep some of my privacy.

I'm also currently taking a College Algebra class! Ugh, it sucks so far and I'm only two days in! It's a three hour class and that doesn't make it any better!

Other than that that is pretty much my whole summer! I am going to Oregon for a week here in a couple weeks. We usually go to the lake more often also but the boat is in the shop, one of the motors isn't working right!   I'm going this weekend with a friend and hopefully we won't have any severe weather so it should be fun!

See ya later alligators!

I promise I'm going to start updating regularly before long! But in the mean time here's a video that I think tackles a serious issue.

• Podcasts I listen to
Posted by Tucker on 12 May 2008
Well I just got a good idea for a new post, Podcasts I listen to.  For those of you that don't know podcasts are pieces of media that are broadcasted through the internet like radio.  It can include audio, pictures, and even video.  They are starting to become more and more popular because they are fairly easy to produce and cost effective.  Podcasts are generally free and I download mine through iTunes, although there are other "podcast downloaders" available.

Here's the list of the podcasts I listen to:
  • CHTV: (CollegeHumor Original Videos) - I watch to this one more for humor than anything.  It's obviously a video podcast.
  • Diggnation - OMG! If you aren't suscribed to this one yet freakin do it.  This is probably one of my most favorite ones.  It's a video podcast.  They go over stories that are popular on the popular site http://digg.com. Kevin Rose and Alex Albrechect (I never spell Alex's name right).
  • Macworld Podcast - Obviously it's about Mac's.  It usually satifies my craving for apple products.  I listen to the audio version although I believe there is a video version but I'm not 100% sure.
  • Mugglecast - This is a audio podcast that is all about Harry Potter.  It has some awesome hosts and I have everyone of them on Facebook lol.  This is also one of my favorites.
  • Photoshop Killer Tips - This is a video podcast, self-explaintory.  Hosted by Matt Kloskowski.
  • Photoshop User TV- Another video podcast, Photoshop Tutorials.  Hosted by Matt Kloskowski, Dave Cross, Scott Kelby.
Well there you have it! Suscribe!
• Ahhhh busybusybusy
Posted by Tucker on 02 May 2008
Well if you couldn't already tell I've been really busy lately! It's May 2nd and my last blog post was on April 16th.  It hasn't been so much of the homework thing...just a lot of things to fit into my day.  I'm in track, if you didn't already know that, and that takes up a lot of my time especially with how many track meets we've been having.  I also have to make time for my friends because that's a big thing for me.  There may be an outburst of blog posts this weekend because I'm grounded and I may be bored.  Yes, I'm 17 and I STILL get grounded .  I won't tell you what I got grounded for yet, but, I will tell it that it was so worth it!

So here the update on things.
I've been busy with track, I run the mile, and I'm still struggling to get back to my personal best time.  My personal best time was 5:12, and I got it my Freshmen year.  I don't know why I can't get close to that anymore but ehh w/e..track is not everything!
I've also been enjoying my new TV as much as I can and so far no problems!
I'm starting to get really frustrated with my four year old HP a610e.  It still runs pretty well but it's starting to show its age unfortunately.  It's also not helping that I hate windows now.  I'm so addicted to Mac's now since I use them everyday in yearbook.  I don't ever see myself going back to a PC willingly after I get rid of this one.
Ahhh I almost forgot! I can't freakin wait until The Sims 3 comes out!  One of my friends and I were doing research over it today during English class and we found a thing on Wikipedia that said that 20th Century Fox bought the rights to produce a "sims" movie.  If this is true, and they make this happen, you can count of me being at the midnight premier if there is one!

Well this is turning into a long post so I better go find something constructive to do, like play The Sims ! Au revoir!
• Juno!
Posted by Tucker on 16 Apr 2008
On Tuesday my mom got Juno for me!  I didn't get a chance to see it in theaters so I was really excited to watch it, especially on my new TV!  First of all I have to say that Ellen Page rocks!  Her sense of humor cracks me up!  She really reminds me of a friend, who is not pregnant haha.

For those of you that don't know Juno is a movie about a girl, named Juno, that gets pregnant in High School.  It was also nominated for Four Academy Awards.  It stars Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Allison Janney, and J.K. Simmons.

This movie is definitely not your normal "Hollywood" style movie.  The movie starts with "It all started in with a chair."  You know from there that it's going to be different.  The beginning credits of the movie also rock! It gives me an idea for a yearbook theme for next year since I'm going to be editor! It's a sketchy kind of design.  I don't know how to review this movie with out giving out too many details to ruin it for everyone.  I would definitely give this a thumbs up!

Well I better stop procrastinating and do my french homework! Ciao!
• New TV!
Posted by Tucker on 16 Apr 2008
Hey Everyone! Sorry it's been so long, I've been kinda busy and when I'm not the enemy of procrastination gets to me!  I've had track, making time to hang out with my friends and prom so it's been kinda hard to update lately.

Prom rocked my socks off this year.  I asked a freshman back in February  if she would go with me and she said yes.  Well between then and now she started dating one of my friends.  He happened to be going with one of my other friends also.  So it was kinda screwed up but it seemed to work out.  I danced my ass off all night long.  I think I only stopped a couple times on the 'chick only' songs to get a drink.  For After Prom, or Project Prom as some people call it, we went to a college near by.  We could either swim, play basketball, racket ball, washers, or just hang out. I swam the whole time with my friends because I forgot my tennis shoes for basketball or racket ball.  I had some huge blisters on my feet from dancing so much, so the water felt pretty good.

On Sunday I got a new TV!  I really wanted a 32" LCD Samsung, which was flat-panel, but my dad didn't think that I should spend $800 on a TV even though it was my own money.  So I bought a 30" Flat Screen Samsung from my uncle, it's not flat-panel though but it's still really nice.  Of course it has HDTV and that rocks!

Hey,
I've been pretty busy this week. Sorry for no updates! I have a three day weekend this weekend so I'll hopefully have a few new reviews/updates.  I also have prom this weekend so keep checkin back for pictures!
• Sweeney Todd
Posted by Tucker on 01 Apr 2008
My mom picked up Sweeney Todd for me today.  She claims me a freak for wanting to watch these kinds of movies haha.  For those of you that don't know it's a musical about a barber that kills people. It stars Johnny Depp (Who got a Golden Globe for Best Actor) and Helena Bonham Carter (She's Bellatrix in Harry Potter).  It is directed by Tim Burton. Another person who shows up in the movie is Sacha Baron Cohen (The guy from Borat).  For all of these people it was their first musical...even Tim Burton's.  Now there's more to it than that but that's just in a nutshell.  If you don't like blood I definitely wouldn't watch this movie.  I wasn't sure if I'd like it at first because I don't really like Musicals too much, but I don't mind trying anything once.  I'll try to give you more of a description without ruining the movie.  At the beginning of the movie it starts out with Sweeney Todd ending his old life and telling his story.  Then it goes to the present and him rolling into London.  He gets to a restaurant called Mrs. Lovett's.  She sells Meat Pies, that comes into play later on.  He opens a barber shop above her store.  He hopes to be renuited with his long lost daughter that he lost when he was sent away by the Judge, now his daughters adopted father.  I could tell you more but you will just have to see for yourself.  The ending of this movie was spectacular! There was major irony going on.  It IS a dark movie, but I can definitaly see why it won a Golden Globe for Best Picture.

If you are looking for a change of a movie I would suggest just giving this one a chance even though it looks 'different'.
• "21"
Posted by Tucker on 30 Mar 2008
I just got back from the movies. I saw "21".  It was pretty sweet!  At the beginning i thought it was going to suck cause it was kinda slow at first.  After a while though it got really good.

For those of you that don't know the movie "21" is based off of the book "Bringing Down the House", which I am currently reading.  The movie is about a kid who doesn't have enough money to go to Harvard Med. and in order to pay for it he gets invited into a blackjack team at MIT.  At first he is really skeptical, but then he warms up to the idea and goes with it.  I says that he will stop once he gets $300,000, enough to pay for school.  They show that blackjack is a beatable game and that it is possible to count cards.  I definitely suggest if you like movies with a bit of rush to see this movie!

You have to see this, it's crazy how similar they are. They are both directed by the same guys but why would they make them this similar?
• Twitter?
Posted by Tucker on 27 Mar 2008
I was at school today telling people about my blog and w/e and I also asked some people about Twitter and if they have accounts and stuff.  Apparently nobody has ever even heard of it! I knew it was a new thing..but that new? Anyways go here to register and then "follow" me at twitter.com/tuckerpivonka.  I also have track tomorrow, ugh, so wish me luck!

Oh and for those of you who don't know Twitter has basically one purpose only. To tell people what is on your mind or what you are doing...The good thing about Twitter is it is just has one purpose and no frills and extras, which makes it incredibly simple!

• Welcome to My New Blog
Posted by Tucker on 26 Mar 2008
This is my brand spankin' new blog! I'm going to try to have a whack at this blog thing and try to at least post every two days if not more. I'm planning on posting things about my daily life as well as some technology news and reviews. It will also be home to some of my pictures, as they are taken, not the old ones because that would be a pain. Hope you like it and come back often! smile
